Sri Krishnadevaraya Educational Trust, named after Sri Srikrishnadevaraya, a famous emperor of Vijayanagar Kingdom was established by a team of 19 philanthropists belonging to Raju Kshatriya Community. Most of the members of the Trust who were also called Founder Trustees were engaged in their business as Class-1 Contractors / Builders, Entrepreneurs, Industrialists and Hoteliers have joined together to give back to the society in the form of education, health care and other social welfare activities. The Board of Trustees were prompted to start an Engineering College in 1986, which is named after a well-known Engineer and Statesman, Bharat Ratna-Sir M. Visvesvaraya.
Sir M. Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology started functioning from the Academic Year 1986-87 with a mere intake of 120 seats in B.E. courses. The active involvement of Board of Trustees resulted in achieving its milestones year after year. At present, the annual intake of Engineering Course alone has gone up to 750 seats. Later, in the Academic Year 1998-1999 a PG Course in MCA was started. The MBA Course was added during 2001-2002 and later, the Institution started conducting PG Courses leading to M.Tech. in Electronics, Mechanical-Computer Integrated Manufacturing and Bio-Technology & Bio-Chemical Engineering. The Institution is permanently affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, approved by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi. Courses have been accredited by National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi (2 times). Recently, National Assessment and Accreditation Council have also accredited the Engg. College for the next five years.
The successive and consistent growth of the Institution was possible with the support and cooperation by the Board of Trustees and able administration by the Office Bearers and of course dedication and devotion by 350 and odd well qualified, experienced and committed staff members. Today, Sir MVIT has acclaimed as one of the top ranking institutions in the country, with the students strength of nearly 3500 on campus.
With a view to offer services on health care, the Trust has started a Dental College in the name of “Krishnadevaraya College of Dental Sciences” in 1992-1993 with an annual intake of 40 seats in BDS course. The Institution is affiliated to Rajeev University of Health Sciences and approved by Dental Council of India, New Delhi. Gradually, the seats have been increased to 60. The Trust is progressively monitoring the development of the Dental College which facilitated starting of MDS courses in 9 specializations. The College in addition to its academics giving good Dental Health Care to the Society with free medical assistance and dental treatment at a very nominal charges. A Dental Mobile Bus which is fully equipped with Dental Chair Units is operated to several villages and towns nearby to serve the patients through Dental Health Camps. The Institution is achieving its targets and milestones and adjudged as one of the Best Institutions of Dental Education in Karnataka.
The Board of Trustees being well known Builders were very keen to add a course on Architectural Education to Sir M.VIT’s Programmes. However, later it took a shape to start an independent School of Architecture in the name of ‘Sir M.V. School of Architecture’. The Institution which is approved by Council of Architecture, New Delhi and affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, started functioning from the Academic Year 2017-2018 with an annual intake of 40 seats to conduct B.Arch. Programme. The Management has taken up an initiative of constructing a unique independent building for this Institution.
